CHANDLER, AZ - A man impersonating a Salt River Project employee is telling local businesses their power will be shut off without payment, according to the Chandler Police Department.
Police said in a statement the phone scam involves a man calling businesses, claiming the power bill is past due and power will be shut off within the hour. He then instructs the business to buy a pre-paid credit card and share the card’s access code to cover the remaining balance.
SRP said it does not notify customers by phone if the bill is past due, but rather through a delinquent reminder bill.
Anyone who has received a similar phone call and has not reported should call the Chandler Police Department at (480) 782-4130.
SRP asks that customers never give their personal or financial information to any caller or visitor. Business customers can call the SRP Business Contact Center at (602) 236-8833, and residential customers can call (602) 236-8888 for accurate account information.
