CHANDLER, AZ - Authorities say a Chandler man has died in what appears to be a hunting accident in Apache County.
The Apache County Sheriff's Office got a call on Thursday round 5 p.m. about an overdue hunter who was supposed to have returned to his Chandler home on Wednesday evening, according to a news release.
Deputies got directions to the man's hunting camp south of Vernon, Arizona at around 6:30 Thursday evening where they found the hunter dead from a gunshot wound to the chest.
According to officials, there was no indication of foul play or other disturbance.
The man, whose identity has not been released, had been hunting in the area with a friend earlier in the week but the friend had to leave on Monday to return to work.
The victim told his family and friend that he was going to stay through Tuesday and would return home on Wednesday.
When he did not make it home by Thursday, his hunting partner notified authorities.
The case is still under investigation.
