PHOENIX - Several restaurants belonging to a national chain have been closed across the Valley.
According to its corporate office, Applebee's franchise RMH has bought 78 stores across four states.
This includes five restaurants in the Valley which all closed December 24.
The closed locations include:
N. 90th Street, Scottsdale
W. Warner Road, Gilbert
S. Gilbert Road, Gilbert
W. Chandler Boulevard, Chandler
S. Alma School Road, Chandler
Most employees found out about the closings on Thursday. ABC15 has been told that RMH is offering positions to all those employees at other Applebee's locations.
A spokesman for Applebee's emphasized that no team members have been eliminated due to the closures. He said the five Valley restaurants were closed by a former franchise owner.
Customers say the employees are on their mind, and the timing during the holidays is pretty rough.
"I feel pretty sad for them. I hope they have the chance to go find other opportunities and I guess make the most of the opportunity. Because that's the situation they'll be in," said Ben Bobich.
"Oh, I feel bad for the employees, definitely. Because I can't imagine showing up at work and not having a place to work," Liz Johns said.
