DPS: Woman killed in crash on eastbound Interstate 10

PHOENIX, AZ - Department of Public Safety officials say the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 are now open after a deadly crash Monday night.

The accident happened around 8:20 p.m. on eastbound I-10 at the Chandler Boulevard exit.

DPS spokesman Carrick Cook said a 1965 Chevy pickup was getting on the highway at a high rate of speed when the driver, 54-year-old Randall Owens, of Maricopa, swerved to the left to avoid a slower vehicle.

The passenger, 44-year-old Celia Owens, and the driver were ejected through the passenger door into oncoming traffic in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10, according to Cook.

According to Cook, Owens was then run over by another vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said that vehicle then fled the scene. Officials are looking for a truck with obvious signs of damage. If you have any information regarding that vehicle, contact DPS at 602-223-2111.

The driver was transported to a local hospital, according to Cook. His condition is not known.
