A Good Samaritan is being credited with saving a 7-year-old autistic girl after she fell into a pool in Apache Junction Sunday morning.

Just before 8:30 a.m., units from Superstition Fire and Medical responded to a drowning call near Superstition Boulevard and Idaho Road.

As crews arrived, they found an adult woman standing with the girl on the deck of the pool area.

Fire officials say the woman had been riding by on her bicycle and saw the girl scaling the fence of the pool.

The woman stopped and witnessed the girl jump in the pool and saw that she was not swimming; she also couldn't keep her head above water.

Fire crews said the woman then scaled the fence herself, jumped in the pool and pulled the girl to safety.

The girl was examined by emergency personnel and released to her mother. She was not injured.

Fire personnel say this is just another example why watching kids around water is important.
