FD: Four Peaks Elementary School briefly evacuated due to fire

APACHE JUNCTION, AZ - Smoke coming from an air conditioning unit caused several classrooms to be evacuated at a school in Apache Junction on Wednesday.

Officials briefly evacuated six classrooms of 5th and 6th graders at Four Peaks Elementary School after a teacher pulled the fire alarm.

The Superstition Fire/Medical Department tweeted out that students were evacuating the school at noon. At 12:20 p.m. most students were able to return to their classrooms.

Four Peaks Elementary School is located near Idaho Road and Smoketree Street.

All students and staff are safe after the incident, SFMD said.

The fire district reported that an air conditioning unit locked up, causing smoke.

The affected students spent the rest of the day taking their classes in the library or cafeteria.

Everything is expected to be back to normal by Thursday.
