FD: 1 killed in fire in Apache Junction

APACHE JUNCTION, AZ - Authorities say a woman has died in a fire in Apache Junction.

Fire department spokesman Dave Montgomery said the victim is a 63-year-old woman who lived with her dog in the home.

Crews put out the fire inside a mobile home near Ironwood Drive and Broadway Avenue.

It appears the fire started in an unoccupied bedroom.

Apache Junction police are investigating the cause of the fire, but say it appeared to have smoldered for some time before showing smoke from outside the home.

The victim's dog survived the fire and is now reportedly being taken care of at an Apache Junction animal shelter
