Apache Junction Boys & Girls Club leader, husband found dead in apparent murder-suicide

APACHE JUNCTION, AZ - A Boys & Girls Club leader and her husband were found dead inside an Apache Junction home in what police are calling a murder-suicide.

Apache Junction police spokeswoman Constance Halonen said police were called to the couple's home near Lost Dutchman Boulevard and Meridian Road Tuesday afternoon around 1 p.m.

Halonen said when police arrived on scene, they found Brett "Kelly" Armstrong, 55 and Laurel "Laurie" Armstrong, 47 deceased inside their home.

Authorities said the initial investigation indicates that Kelly Armstrong took the life of Laurie Armstrong before taking his own life.

The Boys & Girls Club issued the following statement Wednesday afternoon:

"The Boys and Girls Clubs of the East Valley are deeply saddened to learn about the death of Laurie Armstrong. Laurie was a leader in our organization and within the Apache Junction community. As our Branch Executive for the Apache Junction Branch she diligently worked with our staff to provide a positive place for kids and teens. Our deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers go out to her family."
