Suspect in Phoenix molestation case arrested

PHOENIX - A 47-year-old man has been arrested for inappropriately touching a young girl at a west Phoenix apartment complex nearly two months ago, according to police.

Phoenix police say the incident happened June 21 near 55th Avenue and Indian School Road around 8 p.m.

The 9-year-old victim told officers she had been selling candy apples at her apartment complex when the man approached her and made a purchase.

Police say the victim started to walk away when the suspect came up behind her and said he had more money for her.

The victim tried to get away but the man was able to grab her and placed his hand down her shirt, touching her breast, police said.

The suspect then fled the area.

With the help of the victim, a police department forensic artist was able to create a composite sketch of the suspect.

Police say that on August 2 the patrol officer who wrote the police report on the incident conducted a traffic stop on a suspected impaired driver.

The officer believed the suspect matched the composite sketch in the abuse case and detectives contacted the victim who was able to identify the suspect in the case.

The suspect faces charges of sexual abuse, a Class 3 felony.

ABC15 is not identifying the suspect as he has not been formally charged.
