Suspect arrested for Phoenix park shooting death

PHOENIX - A 17-year-old has been arrested in the shooting death of a man at a West Phoenix park late last month .

Phoenix police say 22-year-old Dershawn Stuard was shot and killed on June 26 at a park near 107th Avenue and Camelback Road.

A 14-year-old boy was also struck by gunfire but his injuries were not life-threatening.

Police said the victims had been playing basketball in the park when the suspect came up and began to shoot at them.

Stuard died at the scene.

The male suspect was located and arrested on Thursday and is now facing charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault, according to police.

ABC15 is not identifying the suspect as he has not yet been formally charged.
