Police say a hit-and-run suspect is now in custody after pointing a gun at witnesses in west Phoenix.

Officers were called to 59th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard Monday afternoon.

According to a Phoenix police spokeswoman, two cars were involved in a collision and one of the drivers fled the crash scene.

The male suspect allegedly pointed a gun at witnesses who followed him after the two-car accident, police said. They were able to provide police with the location where the man was last seen and authorities began searching the area.

It took several hours for officials to locate the suspect; the handgun was also recovered, a police spokesperson said.

The other driver involved in the crash suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect is facing aggravated assault, hit-and-run and theft-related charges.

No additional information has been released at this time.
