Police documents: Palemon vega-Maqueda faces manslaughter in daughter's death, August crash

WEST PHOENIX - The father of a 6-year-old girl, who was killed in a car crash earlier this month , faces two felony charges related to her death, according to police documents.

Palemon Vega-Maqueda, 30, faces one count of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after the August 8 crash that killed his 6-year-old daughter, Amy Vega.

Police said the father was attempting to pass a vehicle near 75th Avenue and Obsorn when he overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle. The 2002 Mustang Saleen crossed into oncoming traffic and collided by a truck.

His 6-year-old daughter was in the front passenger seat and wearing a seatbelt, police said, however, was not in a booster seat.

The daughter was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

According to police paperwork, it is believed that the father was driving above 60 miles per hour -- at least 20 miles per hour above the posted speed limit.

The occupants in the truck were also injured and taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Court documents indicate he doesn't have any attorney yet.
