An apartment fire displaced a couple and killed a dog overnight in West Phoenix.

The fire happened around midnight on Tuesday in the area of 20th Avenue and Indian School Road in Phoenix.

Phoenix fire crews responded to a large three-story apartment complex for the working apartment fire. The fire was contained to one unit; however, the smoke from the fire filled a number of the surrounding apartments.

The couple living in the fire-involved apartment made it out safely. No injuries were reported to firefighters or other residents living at the apartments.

Unfortunately, they were not able to get their dog out of the apartment. When firefighters were able to get to the dog and attempt to revive him using a "fido bag," the attempts were unsuccessful.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
