The Phoenix Police Department is investigating after a man was found shot dead near 67th Avenue and Thomas Road Saturday morning.

The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Kevin Gomez Amavizca, according to officials.

Just before 3:30 a.m. Saturday officers responded to the area for a shooting call, according to a Phoenix police spokesperson.

Police learned that Amavizca was involved in a verbal argument with 23-year-old Heribeto Celaya-Leyva.

The argument turned physical and led to Celaya-Leyva shooting Amavizca, according to police.

Witnesses told officers that both men knew each other.

Based off information gathered and interviews done by officers, Celaya-Leyva was arrested on charges of second degree murder and prohibited possessor.
