Phoenix car wash to help with 14-year-old's funeral costs

PHOENIX - A car wash is being held Friday to help pay funeral expenses for a 14-year-old girl who died in a Phoenix apartment fire .

Rosa Ramirez Zapien died in the fire that injured her mother and three other children.

The fire burned through an apartment near 59th and McDowell Road last Sunday morning and police are investigating the cause as possible arson and homicide. Police interviewed a person of interest but he was later released.

The victim’s mother was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Also injured were a 3-month-old, a 3-year-year-old and 10-year-old.

Friends of the family organized the car wash to help the family with expenses.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Title Max, on the northwest corner of 51st Avenue and Thomas Road in Phoenix.
