Two people are dead and another is in critical condition after a deadly accident that started with a dine-and-dash case.

Phoenix Police says the incident started just before 9 p.m. at a restaurant in the West Valley. That's where police say a couple got into an altercation with employees after they tried to leave without paying for their meal.

The couple left the business in a black Camaro at a high rate of speed. While police were responding to the situation, officials say they got a domestic violence call from the passenger in the black Camaro.

Police tried to stop the vehicle with lights and sirens but the driver kept going.

Police continued to monitor the Camaro from a helicopter as it approached the intersection of 67th Avenue and Van Buren Street at a high rate of speed.

That's where police say the Camaro's driver lost control and crashed head-on into another vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle was killed, as was the passenger of the Camaro. The woman who had been driving the Camaro was taken to the hospital and is currently in critical condition.

Police say the driver of the second car was a 31-year-old man on his way home from work.

The area around the scene of the crash remained closed until approximately 8:30 a.m.
