PHOENIX - Phoenix police are working to solve a murder mystery after a husband and wife were found dead in their home of 30 years.
"We see this on the news all the time, but it's very different when it's someone you know," Michele Joy of Crisis Nursery said.
Emotions were running high at Crisis Nursery where Barbara Singer worked as a nurse practitioner for more than a decade.
"We serve children who have been abused and neglected and Barbara was like the perfect sort of pediatric medical person you'd want to have taking care of your child," Joy said.
Joy got the news this morning that 64-year-old Barbara and her 81-year-old husband Bill were found dead inside their Phoenix home near 35th Avenue and Bell Road.
Phoenix police got a call from a caretaker saying the Singers weren't answering the door. Investigators said based on what they saw inside this was not a murder-suicide. Police said the couple was murdered and the crime was violent.
"It was disbelief. It was absolutely disbelief," Joy said.
The Singers had been married over 30 years. Joy knew them both well.
"They were just simply loving, caring people in the community," she said.
A community wondering why something so tragic happened to such good people.
