LITCHFIELD PARK, AZ - The Loop 303 was closed at Camelback Road for several hours Saturday afternoon due to a barricade situation involving a suicidal individual.
According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, a Sun City West resident was making suicidal threats and waving a gun around at his home around 2 p.m.
Before officers could arrive, the man left the home and drove south on Loop 303. After several attempts using stop sticks, deputies were able to stop the car near Camelback and Bethany Home roads a short time later.
Maricopa County Sheriff's spokesman Chris Hegstrom said 86-year-old Frank Schultz was taken into custody after officers used a stun gun on him and after several hours of negotiations.
A weapon was found in the vehicle. No deputies were injured.
Schultz was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
He faces two counts of aggravated assault.
