PHOENIX - Twenty-nine people have been displaced after a fire erupted at an apartment complex in west Phoenix Friday, says fire officials.
Phoenix Fire Captain Tony Mure said firefighters responded to an apartment complex near 70th Avenue and Indian School Road at 3:45 p.m.
A caller reported to dispatch that smoke was coming from a second-story apartment in building 28.
Firefighters were able to locate an active fire inside an apartment and extinguish it quickly, he said. Officials also discovered an attic fire that was affecting the building's roof.
Mure said the entire building received smoke, fire and water damage.
The Red Cross is on scene working with those affected. The Red Cross said that 16 units are affected.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
