PHOENIX - Authorities say a 5-year-old girl is in extremely critical condition after being pulled from a pool in west Phoenix Thursday night.
The incident happened around 7:30 p.m at a townhome community near 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road.
Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Tony Benites said the child was in the water for 2-5 minutes before someone discovered her.
Benites said the girl was pulled out of the water by bystanders at the pool.
Bahir Iddeen, a former volunteer firefighter from California, told ABC15 he and another woman performed CPR on the girl before paramedics arrived.
Benites said when the child was transported to the hospital, she had a pulse but was not breathing on her own.
Authorities say the child was being supervised by adults at the time of the event.
The investigation is ongoing at this time.
