FD: Winds fanned flames burning West Phoenix home

PHOENIX - High winds challenged crews battling a fire in a manufactured home in West Phoenix on Sunday.

Phoenix fire Capt. Ruben Saavedra said they received a call of a fire in the area of 31st Avenue and Van Buren Street around 2 p.m.

Firefighters arrived on scene and found heavy fire from one manufactured home spreading in both directions to nearby manufactured homes.

Saavedra said the fire was fed by high winds and the close proximity of the homes provided a challenge for firefighters.

Most of the fire was contained to one home, Saavedra said. He said two of the three homes were vacant.

Three people displaced by the fire were being assisted by the fire department.

Saavedra said the cause of the fire is suspicious and is being investigated by fire investigators.

No injuries were reported.
