PHOENIX - A 1-year-old has died at a Phoenix hospital after being pulled from a backyard pool Saturday morning, according to Phoenix police.
Phoenix fire Capt. Jonathan Jacobs said the boy was found in the pool at a home near 75th Avenue and Camelback Road.
Crews provided CPR and then rushed the child to Phoenix Children's Hospital in critical condition, he said.
The boy's parents were home at the time of the incident and the pool does have a fence around it. Authorities are investigating how the child managed to get into the pool.
Jacobs said it may have been that a gate to the pool was left open or not completely secured.
He reiterated the importance for parents to not only watch their children around water, but also to make sure that all barriers are secured.
He said it is also important for parents to learn CPR.
