PHOENIX - Phoenix firefighters fought a fire at a strip mall just west of Interstate 17 in West Phoenix Saturday night.
Crews responded to the businesses near 31st Avenue and Van Buren Street around 10:15 p.m. for a report of smoke coming from the mall.
The first crews on the scene were confronted by heavy smoke from the center businesses and called for additional units.
According to the Phoenix Fire Department, there are approximately 10 businesses under the same roof.
With the help of built-in fire walls and ventilation holes cut into the roofs, fire and smoke damage was isolated to a few businesses, said fire Capt. Tony Mure.
Power has been shut down to the entire mall. Fire investigators are working with the businesses and utility company to restore power to some of the businesses.
No injuries were reported.
Most of the damage appeared to be in "Rigo's Locksmith" store, according to Mure.
