Phoenix Fire officials say a child admitted to starting a fire in a home, leaving one man with burn injuries.

The fire broke out at a residence near 89th Avenue and Thomas Road on Saturday evening. After arriving on scene, fire crews found that the fire burned two bedrooms and extended into the attic.

A 41-year-old man, believed to be an uncle to four children in the home, suffered serious burns to his lower legs and hands. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Fire officials say the children in the home were able to escape unharmed.

On Sunday morning fire officials say a child admitted to starting the fire in one of the bedrooms. Police and fire investigators are working to learn more, but having trouble getting the full story because the children are so young.

No further information has been released.
