A man suspected of shooting and killing another man and then pointing a handgun at officers remains hospitalized with serious injuries after police shot him.

Police officers were called to 35th Avenue, south of Broadway, on Thursday morning to investigate a shooting call. When officers arrived they found a man dead from a gunshot wound.

Police confirmed the victim's identity on Friday as 31-year-old Martin Elias Tagaban.

Authorities said the suspect, who has not been named, walked away from the scene and officers located him near 33rd Avenue and Southern.

Police said the suspect refused to listen to officers' commands in English and Spanish and walked into a nearby retention basin.

Officers deployed three stun guns and two sun bag rounds, which did not stop the suspect. Police said the suspect then reached out a handgun on his waistband.

An officer then fired his gun and shot the suspect.

Witnesses told police that the suspect shot the victim after an argument.
