PHOENIX - Westbound Interstate 10 has reopened after it was closed for hours Saturday after a man apparently jumped off the overpass.
Interstate 10 at the Loop 202 closed at 9:30 a.m. Saturday due to a "police incident," according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos said one person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The closure forced an estimated 20-mile backups throughout the day, according to ADOT.
ADOT said even though the road is open, motorists should give themselves extra time or take an alternate route because a lengthy backup still needs clear.
Another deadly accident along State Route 347 at Riggs Road added to the traffic congestion. DPS said two vehicles collided and one person was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim was transported to a local hospital.
Motorists traveling to Phoenix from Casa Grande, Maricopa and Tucson are encouraged to delay travel.
