Authorities have identified two people Sunday who died in a head-on collision in Phoenix.
Sgt. Tommy Thompson of the Phoenix Police Department said 50-year-old Francisco Carranza Sanchez and 41-year-old Miriam Gonzalez both died at the scene after their vehicles collided near 83rd Avenue and Pomo Saturday evening.
Thompson said Sanchez was traveling northbound in a 1999 Ford Expedition on 83rd Avenue Saturday evening when he crossed over the center line and collided with Gonzalez, who was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, and traveling southbound around 6:40 p.m.
Both victims died at the scene, said police.
Following the accident, another southbound vehicle crashed into the two vehicles involved in the earlier collision. The occupants of that vehicle did not receive life-threatening injuries.
Thompson said Sanchez, the driver of the Expedition, was involved in an earlier crash and fled the scene.
The case remains under investigation.
