PHOENIX - Phoenix police have released the identity of an 8-year-old boy who died after he collided with a vehicle while riding his back Wednesday evening.
Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said the young boy was riding his bicycle southbound on 26th Drive approaching Roeser Road, when he failed to stop at the stop sign.
The boy, identified Thursday as Richard Vejar, was struck by a Dodge Nitro traveling westbound, he said. The boy was transported to Phoenix Children's Hospital where he died.
The 37-year-old driver remained at the scene. Thompson said impairment does not appear to be a factor. The investigation is ongoing.
