PHOENIX - Police are investigating a shooting that happened outside a veterans club near 16th Street and Broadway Road early Saturday morning.
Phoenix police Officer James Holmes said that around 1:40 a.m. the 35-year-old male victim was in the parking lot of the AMVETS with friends when a red passenger car drove up.
According to witnesses, a male in his 20s got out of the car and shot the victim several times before taking off in the passenger car.
The friends of the victim put him in their own car and were driving to the hospital when they were stopped by patrol officers, Holmes said.
The victim was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where at last report he was listed in critical condition.
Witnesses at the AMVETS told police there was no confrontation while at the club and police have not determined a motive for the shooting. Police say the victim and suspect do not know each other.
