PHOENIX - A man was shot when two suspects tried to carjack a vehicle in South Phoenix Thursday night, according to police.
Phoenix police say two people inside a vehicle parked near 19th Avenue and Baseline Road were approached by two men who demanded they give them the car.
When the victims would not give up the vehicle, the driver was shot in the upper torso with an AK-47 rifle by one of the suspects.
The victims were able to drive away and make it to a nearby police precinct where officers called for an ambulance.
There was no word on the victim's condition.
Police then began looking for the suspects' vehicle, described as being a lighter or brown colored SUV, possibly heading to the West Valley area.
The suspects were described by police only as a younger Hispanic male and older black male.
