PHOENIX - A 46-year-old man is facing animal cruelty charges after allegedly throwing a puppy onto cement flooring in Phoenix on Saturday night.
Phoenix police were called to an apartment near Central Avenue and Broadway Road after receiving a disturbance call. When police arrived they found a woman holding a small puppy suffering from what appeared to be a seizure.
Police said the victim and her children were outside of an apartment when the victim’s boyfriend, Juan Paredez, became upset. According to the victim, Paredez picked up a 3-week-old Chihuahua from a new litter and threw it onto the cement ground.
Officials said Paredez told them that he picked up the puppy, named Bandit, and accidentally dropped the dog on the ground.
Paradez also broke a television before officers arrived, according to Phoenix police.
The puppy died from its injuries. Paradez faces animal cruelty and domestic violence charges.
