PHOENIX - Police say a young child has died after a two-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon in south Phoenix.
Phoenix police Officer James Holmes said witnesses told police a Chrysler minivan traveling west on Broadway Road ran a red light at Central Avenue where it was struck by a Dodge pickup truck.
The minivan rolled over onto its roof and the unrestrained 3-year-old was ejected from a window, resulting in the fatal injury, said Holmes.
The 26-year-old driver and three other children in the minivan--ages 12, 7 and 5--were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
Holmes said the accident investigation showed at least half the passengers and the driver of the minivan were not properly restrained.
The 44-year-old driver and two passengers--ages 21 and 49-- in the pickup truck were not injured.
Holmes said there were no immediate signs of impairment for the drivers and the investigation is ongoing.
