A taxi driver was killed in a multi-vehicle crash in south Phoenix on Saturday morning.

According to the Phoenix Fire Department, just before 5 a.m. crews responded to the intersection of 23rd and Southern avenues for a three-vehicle collision.

Crews transported the driver, Alex Kennedy, 35, to the hospital where he later died.

Two others were taken to the hospital with less severe injuries, according to fire officials.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, witnesses say the taxi was traveling west on Southern Avenue when it crossed over into oncoming traffic and collided with an SUV and a small compact car.

Police say impairment is unknown at this time.

Southern Avenue is restricted from 23rd to 27th avenues as officers investigate.
