Jose Ruiz, 18, honored by friends and family after murder at Boost Mobile store in Phoenix

PHOENIX - Friends and family honored a teenager Friday who was murdered while working one of his two jobs in Phoenix

Jose Ruiz, 18, died Saturday night after a robber shot him at the Boost Mobile store near 51st Avenue and Southern Avenue, according to Phoenix police.

No arrests have been made and police said they have little evidence as the store did not have surveillance cameras and there were no eyewitnesses.

At the Friday night memorial service friends shared stores about the teen who wanted to join the military and eventually become a police officer.

Ruiz was already a commander in his junior ROTC program.

The Trinity Mennonite Church was filled with about 300 people who never got to say goodbye to Ruiz, including his boss at the store.

"I think he gave his life for any one of us who could have been working there," one woman said in Spanish. "It could have been my son. It could have been me. I once again ask for forgiveness for having him there."

The funeral is scheduled for Saturday at 2pm A.L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuary.
