PHOENIX - Authorities say a Glendale man was caught as he tried to escape from a south Valley jail Saturday.
Maricopa County Sheriff's spokesman Jeff Sprong said that around 11 a.m. 27-year-old Benjamin Christian tried to escape from the Durango Jail by scaling the inner perimeter fence.
Sprong said the inmate was stopped before he reached the second fence.
Christian sustained numerous cuts to his arms and legs and was taken to Maricopa Medical Center for treatment.
Sprong said Christian was booked into the jail on May 12, 2011 on a warrant for various drug and weapons charges.
Detectives are investigating the escape attempt, Sprong said.
