PHOENIX - Authorities say an inmate has died in a Maricopa County jail.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says 47-year-old Felix Martinez Torres was discovered unresponsive just after midnight on Sunday.
Sheriff's Deputy Joaquin Enriquez said the inmate was found sitting and unresponsive in the cell.
CPR was started and medical personnel were called.
Phoenix firefighters took over CPR and transported Torres to St. Joseph's Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
Detectives responded to the Towers Jail to investigate the inmate's death. The inmate's cell mates were interviewed and the investigation is ongoing.
Torres' family members told detectives that he had a history of medical issues.
Torres was booked into Fourth Avenue Jail on September 30th 2013 on warrants from driving on a suspended license and failure to appear in court.
