FD: 4 puppies die in south Phoenix house fire

PHOENIX - A fire in south Phoenix Thursday killed four puppies.

Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Jonathan Jacobs says the fire started around 10:20 a.m. in the garage of a home near 20th Street and Broadway Road.

Air15 video showed fire crews using oxygen to try to save the puppies. Jacobs said they died of smoke inhalation.

A woman was seen holding one puppy in her arms, walking around in front of the burned-out house. Neighbors told ABC15 the resident went back into the home to try to save the animals.

A gaping hole was seen at one end of the home. Jacobs said approximately 22 firefighters responded to fight the fire.

There was no word on what sparked the blaze.
