Authorities searching for suspect involved in shooting at Phoenix neighborhood market

PHOENIX - Authorities are asking for the public’s help to find the suspect responsible for an attempted armed robbery and shooting in Phoenix.

The incident occurred July 26 near Central and Southern avenues.

Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said the incident happened at a neighborhood market near Central and Southern avenues just before noon.

Thompson said the shooting involved an off-duty Buckeye police officer who is a co-owner of La Esquina Market.

The victim fired several shots and the suspect returned fire, Thompson said.

The suspect then fled the scene. It is unclear if he left on foot or in a vehicle.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 20 to 25 years old, weighing 150 to 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and black shorts. The suspect also had a goatee and a mustache.

Thompson said there were two children in the store at the time of the robbery. He said it appears no one was injured.

Buckeye police Officer Tammy Skaggs said the officer has been with the department for six years and is a patrol officer.

The incident is being investigated criminally and internally, Thompson said.
