Democratic Rep. Kyrsten Sinema may find it hard to avoid jumping from her current district to the 7th Congressional District seat being vacated by the retirement of Rep. Ed Pastor.
Sinema has been the subject of speculation since late last week when Pastor announced he was retiring after 23 years serving his solidly Democratic south Phoenix district . Her campaign and political consultants aren't addressing questions as to whether she'll jump districts.
Several prominent politicians are interested in Pastor's seat, including Sen. Steve Gallardo, Rep. Ruben Gallego and Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox.
Sinema has $1 million in campaign cash that would give her a huge fundraising lead. Leaving the Tempe-based 9th District would let her avoid future contested races but could hurt the party's chances of keeping that seat.
