PHOENIX - Authorities have identified two men who are accused of murdering a 17-year-old Olympic boxing hopeful.
Sgt. Trent Crump of the Phoenix Police Department said 22-year-old Robert Chavez, and Joseph Corrales, 23, allegedly beat to death Alexis Urbina-Ochoa, 17, back in September.
Family members say Alexis Urbina-Ochoa's mother discovered him beaten and unconscious just a few hours after she left their house near Broadway Road and Central Avenue.
Crump said the two suspects were arrested Friday evening while allegedly trying to sell property stolen from the home during the alleged burglary and attack.
One of the men in custody invoked his rights while being interrogated by authorities, Crump said. The second suspect provided an interview and, investigators say, admitted to involvement in the crime and implicated the co-defendant.
It was not immediately clear which suspect spoke with authorities.
Both Chavez and Corrales have been booked on charges of first degree murder, second-degree burglary and trafficking in stolen property.
