PHOENIX - It's something you think would only been seen in a Hollywood movie: muddy flood waters forcing motorists to hit the brakes.
It happened Tuesday to motorists traveling northbound on Interstate 17 near Dixileta.
Air15 footage showed the murky water slowly creeping toward drivers after storms pummeled the area.
Northern areas of the Valley near the Skunk Creek Wash and New River received record-breaking amounts of rain, causing major flooding in various areas. Those flood waters continued to flow south and as of 10 a.m. started to hit Interstate 17 near Dixileta.
The roadway was shut down for several hours as the flood waters receded. Lanes were reopened in time for the Tuesday evening commute.
