PHOENIX - A Valley mother is dealing with a parent's worst nightmare -- burying her child.
Seventeen-year-old Daniel Snider slipped under the water at Lake Pleasant Friday and never came back up.
Daniel was surrounded by friends, considered a strong swimmer and holding onto a raft, but may have suffered a seizure that caused him to disappear beneath the murky green waters of the lake. His body was recovered by Maricopa County Sheriff's Department divers a day later.
"I told them (deputies) I couldn't leave him, I can't leave him under there," said Stephanie Strong, Daniel's mother.
Daniel was at the lake with friends and family on Friday. Strong says at first he was wearing a life jacket but when she went to the marina to get more ice she came back to find his friends searching for him under water.
"I don't know why he took off the jacket," Strong said.
Daniel was diagnosed with epilepsy when he was 8 years old but his mother says he was taking medication and hadn't had an episode in a long time.
"I just want to see him one more time," said Stephanie. "I just want him to come home."
Daniel was set to begin his senior year on Monday, worked at a nearby McDonald's, and dreamed one day becoming a chef.
His family has a fund set up for burial expenses. It's at www.everribbon.com/ribbon/view/13987
