Valley father surprises kindergartner at school with military homecoming

PHOENIX - One Valley kindergartner received a very special season's greeting on Monday -- from her dad.

Aliyah Swatson, a student at Sunnyslope Elementary, was in the middle of story time when her dad quietly walked into the classroom.

"Daddy!" she said before giving him a big hug.

Sgt. Kevin Swatson, a member of the United States Army Reserve, has been stationed in Afghanistan for the last year. He kept his homecoming a secret in order to surprise his family.

"Hi princess," he said. "I missed you."

It was an emotional homecoming for everyone, including his wife, who has been holding the family together.

"That was the worst part I think. That's the hardest part," she said.

The family's son Ryder was a little skittish when he first saw his dad, but quickly warmed up to him.
