PHOENIX - More than 48 hours after a huge monsoon storm hit the Valley, many homes and businesses are still without power.
Nichole Kell typically sets up shop on a Monday morning but it now takes longer with at least ten of her gelato flavors long gone.
After her employees closed up Saturday night the power went out at her store, Gelato Spot.
"We didn't have anything set up for a freezer," Kell said.
When employees arrived the next day over a thousand dollars worth of gelato had melted.
"This is a family run business so there's no one to pay for it so it's a difference when you have to throw out all your gelato and wait for a couple days later to get a new stock," Kell said.
Outside of the Gelato Spot there is more damage.
It's the same story in nearby neighborhoods, on almost every street, at least one roof has a tree laying on top.
If you have storm damage, the first thing you need to do is contract your insurance agent Kell said.
Nicole Farr with Arizona Insurance Council says to explain in detail the damages and even send in pictures from your cell phone.
Within a few days an adjuster will come out to assess the damage.
Farr says do not hire someone who knocks on your front door with a cheap price.
"[It's] really shady work and the roof is leaking next time the storm comes through," Farr said.
Farr says that even though you want a quick fix, your insurance company needs to agree with the quote and company.
"If they don't know what's going on and you just scramble to get things fixed, the insurance company won't know what was really damaged. That's when fraud can come in and you don't want to deal with that."
Whether you're cleaning up or counting your losses, one thing is for sure, Saturday's storm was one for the books.
