Interstate 17 shut down Tuesday afternoon after woman struck on freeway

PHOENIX - Interstate 17 was shut down for almost four hours Tuesday afternoon after a woman was struck while fixing her vehicle on the freeway.

A Department of Public Safety spokesman says the driver was fixing her broken down car in the HOV lane on southbound I-17 at Loop 101 when she was hit.

DPS says they have two people in custody who were involved in the accident.

Phoenix fire officials say the female victim, believed to be in her 30s, was transported to a local hospital. Her current condition is unknown.
