A series of accidents created a huge headache for drivers heading north on Interstate-17 Saturday.
The Arizona Department of Transportation reported that three separate crashes created an almost 20-mile backup heading north of the Valley.
ADOT says traffic was delayed between the Carefree Highway to north of Black Canyon City in Rock Springs.
The I-17 NB backup is easing. It's still very slow from Anthem to New River, but getting better north of that toward Black Canyon City.— Arizona DOT (@ArizonaDOT) August 30, 2014
"While the crash at State Route 74 and another crash at Anthem Way are not blocking lanes at this time, traffic is very slow and lane closures are possible as crews work to clear the incidents," ADOT said early Saturday afternoon.
Lanes were closed for some time while crews cleaned up after one of the crashes, but was reopened before 1 p.m.
By 4 p.m. ADOT said there were no restrictions and a queue still existed, but it was much smaller than earlier. It was still slow between Black Canyon City and Sunset Point.
