Woman using walker killed crossing North Phoenix road with husband

PHOENIX - A pedestrian has been killed in an accident in the north Valley.

The accident happened near 43rd Avenue and Cactus Road just before 7 a.m.

Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos said a 54-year-old woman using a walker was crossing the street mid-block with her husband.

Her husband made it across the street, but the woman was about halfway across when she was struck.

Martos said police are not sure if the woman was struck once or twice. At least one driver stayed at the scene of the accident.

The area of 43rd Avenue between Cactus Road and a half mile south will be closed for several more hours, Martos said.
