Valley police use app to catch child sexual predators

You can report suspicous activity via your phone

PHOENIX - Police are asking the public to report any suspicious activity to them via an app to catch child sex predators.

On Wednesday, Maricopa County Attorney, Arizona Internet Crime Against Children Task Force and local police are asking people to report anything suspicious on the CyberTipline app.

You can put a shortcut on your smartphone for the app – to make it easier to report when you’re not near a computer.

Police say child predators often hide behind technology.

“Now it’s our turn to use this technology to report these crimes via this web based app,” said one detective with the task force.

Detectives say in most child sexual exploitation cases, tips come from citizens.

Chief Daniel Garcia said, “Being able to have an app like this….could save a child’s life."
