PHOENIX, Ariz. - Phoenix is welcoming 72 poets from around the world and countless fans to the 2014 Individual World Poetry Slam (iWPS) beginning Wednesday, October 8.
The three-day competition and arts festival will include discussions, workshops, open mics, and poetry showcases made possible by the Arizona Humanities Council.
The Last Chance Slam at Lawn Gnome Publishing will kick off the festival, giving poets one last chance to join and compete. The official preliminary competitions, referred to as “bouts," will take place on October 9 and 10th. The top performers from those days will move on to the finals on October 11, where one poet will be crowned iWPS champion.
All access passes can be purchased online at iwps.poetryslam.com for $60. Students under 21 can buy a discounted access pass for $40 with a valid student ID.
