Police identify 2 teens dead in murder-suicide

PHOENIX - Police say a teenage boy shot his ex-girlfriend then turned the gun on himself at a North Phoenix home on Friday, killing both.

They have been identified by police as 16-year-old Anastasia Greer and 15-year-old Matthew Bolton.

School officials have confirmed the teens attended Sandra Day O'Connor High School.

Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said the shooting happened around noon in front of a home near 43rd Avenue and Happy Valley Road.

Thompson said investigators learned Anastasia had recently ended the couple's relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend.

Authorities said Anastasia was visiting a friend, following early dismissal from school, when Matthew got a ride to the home.

Thompson said Matthew and Anastasia met in front of the house where he shot her and then shot himself. Police said both Anastasia and Matthew died at the scene.

Alina Hudson called Anastasia her sister.

"She was a sweetheart, everybody knows that, it's heartbreaking,"

Through tears she describes Ana as a loyal friend who loved animals and was greatly loved.

"I feel so sad for her mom, and everybody else in her family," Hudson said.

LeAnn Hull was at Sandra Day O'Connor High School, standing over a memorial for her own son Andy, when she heard the news.

Andy committed suicide 14 months ago.

"I'm thinking about those poor parents and know exactly how they're feeling right now," Hull said.

Hull has made it her life's work to prevent teen suicide, speaking throughout the district.

She was actually passing out bracelets and dog tags on campus with the message "you matter" in memory of her son.

"That's ultimately all we want to know is that we matter to somebody."

Hull created the You Matter foundation to advocate for better suicide awareness education in Valley schools.
